Pajala Airport Guide
Pajala Airport (ICAO ESUP) is a small municipal airport in Norrbotten County, in the far north of Swedish Lapland. It sits at Mommankangas, about 15 km by road from the village of Pajala, close to the Finnish border. The airport opened for regular traffic in 1999.
The single asphalt runway, 11/29, is 2,302 m long after an 880 m extension in 2007. The longer strip lets the airport take larger charter aircraft. Jonair flies the scheduled service to Luleå, and the airport has also hosted charter flights from the United Kingdom since December 2013, from Norwich, Birmingham and Humberside.
Traffic is light. The airport recorded 5,914 passengers in 2016, of which 3,907 were international. The terminal building was enlarged in 2021 to handle more passengers and baggage. The airport is staffed only around flight times and is closed in weeks 28 to 31. Taxis and rental cars are available, and a bus runs from Gällivare twice a day.
