El Fasher Airport guide

El Fasher Airport (ICAO HSFS), also written Al Fashir, lies just southwest of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state in western Sudan. It stands at about 729 metres above sea level and is listed as a public and military airfield under government control.

The airfield has two runways. Runway 05/23 is asphalt, about 2,970 metres long and 45 metres wide. Runway 18/36 is gravel, about 1,527 metres long and 45 metres wide. The long asphalt strip can take large transport aircraft, which made the airport a regional hub for air links to Khartoum and Nyala.

The airport has served two roles. Sudan Airways, Badr Airlines and Nova Airways have flown scheduled services from it, and the UN-African Union mission UNAMID used a special terminal here for its own air transport. Several Sudanese Air Force units, including fighter, helicopter and transport squadrons, have also been based on the field.

Commercial service is not operating. Scheduled flights to Khartoum are listed as suspended, and the city has been at the centre of Sudan's civil war since 2023. Passenger and movement statistics are not published, and travellers should not expect any services on site.
