Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport serves Medina, the second-holiest city in Islam and home to the Prophet's Mosque. An earlier airfield opened on the site in 1950, and the current terminal opened on 2 July 2015 after Saudi Arabia's first full public-private aviation partnership redeveloped the facility under a 25-year concession between the General Authority of Civil Aviation and Tibah Airports Company.
