Kamembe Airport guide

Kamembe Airport (ICAO HRZA) serves Rusizi District in Rwanda's Western Province, at the southwestern tip of the country on the shore of Lake Kivu. It lies on the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Bukavu is across the Ruzizi River.

The airport has one paved runway, 02/20, which is 1,500 metres long and 45 metres wide. A 2008 earthquake damaged the terminal. The government announced repairs in 2010, and a new terminal and control tower were completed by the end of 2012, along with new navigation systems installed by Techno Sky.

RwandAir flies a Dash 8-Q400 between Kamembe and Kigali, with seven flights a week. The flight covers about 147 km in a straight line and replaces a long drive over hill roads. Charter flights from Tanzania, Uganda and the DR Congo also use the airport, though not on a regular schedule.
