Port Moresby Jacksons International Airport Guide

Port Moresby Jacksons International Airport is in the Saraga district, about 8 kilometres outside Port Moresby, and is the largest and busiest airport in Papua New Guinea. It handled an estimated 1.6 million passengers in 2025.

The airport began as a World War II airfield known as 7 Mile Drome and was renamed Jackson Airfield in 1942 in honour of Australian fighter ace John Francis Jackson. It is operated by the National Airports Corporation, which runs 22 national airports across the country and lists Port Moresby as its flagship international gateway.

There are two runways, a main runway of 2,750 metres and a secondary runway of 1,300 metres. The two passenger terminals, domestic and international, are linked by a covered walkway. The international terminal has four aircraft bays equipped with aerobridges. Air Niugini and PNG Air use the airport as a hub, with domestic services across Papua New Guinea and international routes to Australia, Asia and the Pacific, including flights by Qantas, China Southern Airlines, Philippine Airlines and Solomon Airlines.
