Kerema Airport guide

Kerema Airport (IATA: KMA, ICAO: AYKM) serves Kerema, the capital of Gulf Province, on the southern coast of Papua New Guinea. It sits at the western edge of the town, about 3 metres above sea level, facing the Gulf of Papua to the south.

The airport has one asphalt runway, 14/32, about 930 to 945 metres long and 18 metres wide. The Australian administration built the airfield after the Pacific War. It is run by the National Airports Corporation (NAC), the PNG national airports operator.

PNG Air flies scheduled domestic services to Port Moresby, Balimo and Sasereme. Tropicair, North Coast Aviation and helicopter operators also use the airport. In February 2025 a TropicAir twin-engine aircraft ran off the runway on takeoff in strong winds, and none of the eight people aboard were injured.

According to a 2018 report, the airport has no perimeter fence, and people walk and cross the runway, so airport safety officers stop them crossing when aircraft land. The National Airports Corporation has called for a new terminal.
