Moises Benzaquen Rengifo Airport guide

The airport serves Yurimaguas, a river port on the Huallaga River in the Alto Amazonas province of Loreto. It sits on the western edge of town at about 179 metres above sea level and is the main air link for a city otherwise reached by river or by the 125 km road from Tarapoto. The field is also known by its ICAO code SPMS.

A single asphalt runway, 09/27, is 1,800 metres long. CORPAC S.A., the Peruvian state airports agency, runs the field, and no fuel is sold on site. Operating hours are 08:00 to 16:00.

Traffic is light. In 2023 the airport handled 4,297 landings and take-offs and about 19,400 passengers. Flights connect Yurimaguas with Iquitos, Tarapoto and San Lorenzo. The Peruvian Air Force also flies scheduled services from Iquitos and Tarapoto under an agreement with the private operator SkyWay.

In 2024 the Contraloría reported erosion that collapsed part of the runway 27 end and cracks along the rest of the strip. It restricted the airfield to light aircraft and emergency flights while repairs were planned.
