Tumling Tar Airport guide

Tumling Tar Airport, also written Tumlingtar Airport, is a small domestic airport in Sankhuwasabha District, Koshi Province, in eastern Nepal. It lies in Khandbari Municipality, about 15 km from the district headquarters, and is the main air gateway to Makalu Barun National Park and the hill districts around the Arun valley. The IATA code is TMI and the ICAO code is VNTR.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal operates the airport for the Government of Nepal. Land for the field was acquired from local residents in 1965. The first runway was 3,300 ft long and built for DC-3 aircraft. Operations began on 1 October 1972.

The airport has one asphalt runway, 16/34, around 1,200 m long. That length suits turboprops and light aircraft such as the ATR 42, Jetstream 41, Beechcraft 1900, Dornier 228, Let L-410, DHC-6 Twin Otter, Y-12 and Cessna Caravan. Scheduled flights run to Kathmandu, with a link to Biratnagar, and helicopter operators offer charters. The airport is about 550 km from Kathmandu.
