Oslo-Gardermoen International Airport Guide
Oslo Airport, Gardermoen opened on 8 October 1998, replacing the former Fornebu Airport closer to the city. It sits 47 km north of Oslo city centre on the Gardermoen plateau at an elevation of 202 metres, straddling the Nannestad and Ullensaker municipalities. The airport is operated by Oslo Lufthavn AS, a wholly owned subsidiary of the state-owned Avinor group.
The airport handled 26.4 million passengers in 2024, making it the busiest in Norway and the second busiest in the Nordic region after Copenhagen. Norwegian Air Shuttle is the dominant carrier with around 44% of seat capacity; SAS is the second largest. Widerøe operates an extensive domestic network from OSL. The airport connects to 31 domestic and more than 140 international destinations.
A single large terminal covers 265,000 square metres with four piers: a west pier for domestic flights, a south pier, a north pier opened in 2017, and an east pier handling international Schengen and non-Schengen traffic. The airport is linked to Oslo Central Station by the Flytoget express train in approximately 20 minutes, and nearly 70% of passengers use public transport to access the airport.
