Vilankulo Airport guide

Vilankulo Airport (ICAO: FQVL) is a small public airport in Inhambane Province, southern Mozambique. It sits at 14 metres above sea level on the coastal plain and is run by Aeroportos de Moçambique, the national airports company.

The airport has two asphalt runways. Runway 17/35 is 1,439 metres long and runway 10/28 is 734 metres long. The longer strip takes larger turboprops and small jets than the airport could handle before its upgrade.

The Chinese contractor Anhui Foreign Economic Construction Group began a refurbishment and expansion project worth about US$9 million in 2009. President Armando Guebuza inaugurated the new air-conditioned terminal building on 13 April 2011. The works raised the terminal's design capacity from 75,000 to 200,000 passengers a year.

Scheduled service is limited. Airlink flies to Johannesburg and to Mbombela, and LAM Mozambique Airlines flies to Maputo, Inhambane and Johannesburg. The airport is a short drive from Vilankulo town, so most visitors reach it by taxi or a pre-booked transfer.
