Kudat Airport Guide
Kudat Airport (ICAO WBKT) is a small public airfield on the Kudat Peninsula in northern Sabah, Malaysia. It sits about 1.75 km north of Kudat Hospital, north of the town centre, close to the coast.
The airfield has a single asphalt runway, 04/22, about 730 m long and 18 m wide. Its reference elevation is roughly 6 m above sea level. The runway is licensed for visual flight rules traffic only, and the airport has no air traffic control. Flight information comes through Kota Kinabalu Tower. Fire and rescue cover is minimal and does not meet the requirements of the Twin Otter, the turboprop type that has flown the Kota Kinabalu to Kudat route.
The Japanese built the airfield and used it as a military airfield during World War II, and Allied aircraft, including B-25 bombers, attacked it between December 1944 and June 1945. Malaysia Airports Sdn Bhd operates the airport, and handling is available by prior arrangement. Fuelling and hangar space for visiting aircraft are not offered. Kudat lies about 190 km by road from Kota Kinabalu, a drive of around three hours, while the MASwings flight between the two takes about 40 minutes.
