El Tajín National Airport guide

El Tajín National Airport sits in the municipality of Tihuatlán, in northern Veracruz. It stands at kilometre 16.5 of the Poza Rica–Papantla federal highway, at an elevation of 151 metres. The airport serves the oil-industry city of Poza Rica and the nearby coastal town of Tuxpan. It is also the closest airport to the El Tajín archaeological zone, near Papantla.

Its single asphalt runway, 08/26, is 1,800 metres long and 45 metres wide. The airport handles domestic traffic only, through one single-storey passenger building with check-in, a security checkpoint, baggage claim and a three-gate departures concourse. Passengers walk to the aircraft from the gates. The arrivals hall has car rental, taxi stands and retail stores, and the commercial apron holds two narrow-body aircraft.

Traffic has fallen sharply from a peak of about 128,000 passengers in 2012. Aeroméxico and Aeromar once flew here, but scheduled service had largely stopped by 2020. Since 2023 the regional carrier Aerus has offered intermittent flights to Reynosa, Tampico, Veracruz and Villahermosa. The airport recorded 1,997 passengers and 1,138 aircraft operations in 2025.
