General Antonio Cárdenas Rodríguez National Airport / Ixtepec Air Base guide

Ixtepec Airport (ICAO: MMIT) lies in Asunción Ixtaltepec, in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec region of Oaxaca. It stands at 31 m above sea level, about 4 nautical miles west of Juchitán de Zaragoza. Huatulco International Airport is roughly 145 km to the west and Oaxaca International Airport roughly 185 km to the northwest.

The field began as a military airstrip built during the Second World War. Mexicana de Aviación ran it from 1945, the federal government took it back in 1949, and by 1950 it was a Mexican Air Force base. Most of the site is still occupied by the air force. Around 300 million pesos were invested in civilian facilities, and scheduled passenger service started in 2017 with an Aeromar flight from Mexico City. Aeromar went bankrupt in 2023, and since 2023 the airport has been managed by Grupo Olmeca-Maya-Mexica, a holding company owned by the Mexican military.

A single asphalt runway, 18/36, is 2,330 m long. The commercial apron holds two narrow-body aircraft. The airport handled 18,306 passengers and 580 air operations in 2025, up from 15,222 passengers in 2024. Traffic peaked at 39,835 passengers in 2018. Aerotucán flies to Oaxaca, while Aerus and Mexicana de Aviación fly to Mexico City-Felipe Ángeles.
