Faresmaathoda Airport guide

Faresmaathoda Airport serves Faresmaathoda island in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, in the south of the Maldives. It is a domestic airport, built on reclaimed land that joins several small islands in the lagoon beside the inhabited island. The reclaimed area covers about 19.9 hectares.

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company designed and built the airport under a contract signed in November 2020. The runway is 1,200 metres long and 30 metres wide, with navigation lights for night landings. A taxiway, an apron and a fire building sit alongside it. The passenger terminal takes its design from the traditional palm-thatched odiharuge hut and has capacity for about 150 passengers. A causeway and bridge link the airport island to Faresmaathoda.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih inaugurated the airport on 15 March 2023, after a Maldivian Dash 8-300 made the first test landing. Regional Airports Company Limited, a government-owned company, manages it. The company has also signed an agreement with Silver Land Hotels for a 100-room hotel at the airport.
