Thimarafushi Airport guide

Thimarafushi Airport serves Thimarafushi island in Thaa Atoll, in the south-central Maldives. It is a domestic airport with IATA code TMF and ICAO code VRNT, and it sits about 2 metres above sea level.

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company built the airport. A test aircraft landed on 2 September 2013, and President Mohamed Waheed Hassan opened it the next day. The project cost about MVR 32 million. Island Aviation Services, which also runs the national airline Maldivian, operates it. The single asphalt runway, 04/22, is 1,200 metres long. At opening the airport had no control tower, so flights landed in daylight only.

Maldivian flies the scheduled route to Malé. Most passengers continue by speedboat to guesthouses and resorts elsewhere in Thaa Atoll. The airport has no official website of its own, so travellers check flight times with the airline.
