Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport Guide
Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport is Mauritius's only international gateway, located at Plaine Magnien on the southeast coast of the island. The airport sits 48 km from Port Louis and handles flights to Africa, Asia, Europe, and Australia. Originally a Royal Air Force wartime station, it transitioned to civilian use after World War II and was renamed in 1987 to honour the country's first Prime Minister.
A new passenger terminal opened in August 2013, designed to resemble the Traveller's palm, a plant native to Mauritius. It has a stated annual capacity of 4 million passengers and five airbridges. The airport has two runways, with the primary strip extending 3,040 metres. Aircraft movements total around 32,500 per year.
Airports of Mauritius Co. Ltd (AML), majority-owned by the Government of Mauritius, has operated the facility since April 1999. Air Mauritius uses MRU as its primary hub, alongside services from Air France, British Airways, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines, Kenya Airways, and a range of European leisure carriers.
