Donoi Airport guide

Donoi Airport serves Uliastai, the capital of Zavkhan Province in western Mongolia. It sits about 24 km west of the town and is also known as New Uliastai Airport. The ICAO code is ZMDN. The airport is listed as joint civil and military, and the Civil Aviation Authority of Mongolia is its operator.

The airport has one runway, aligned 16/34. Published sources disagree on its length and surface. Wikipedia lists about 3,200 metres of grass and about 2,880 metres of asphalt for the same alignment, while Flight Plan Database gives roughly 3,230 metres of gravel. The field lies at an elevation of about 1,800 metres above sea level, so the air is thin and temperatures drop sharply in winter.

The airport handles domestic traffic only. MIAT Mongolian Airlines is the carrier listed for the route to Ulaanbaatar, and the airport has no official website or public phone line. Passenger numbers are small. The Civil Aviation Administration of Mongolia recorded about 5,400 passengers in 2010, and no more recent official figure is available.
