Mawlamyine Airport guide

Mawlamyine Airport (ICAO: VYMM) serves Mawlamyine, the capital of Mon State in southern Myanmar. It sits at about 24 m above sea level, just south of the city on the eastern side of the Gulf of Martaban.

The airfield dates to 1941, when it served as a Royal Air Force field during World War II. After independence, Union of Burma Airways began domestic flights here. International flights returned briefly in September 2013, when Nok Air Mini started a service from Mae Sot in Thailand. The airline stopped it because of the poor condition of the runway and facilities. A runway upgrade was funded in the 2018 budget year.

The single asphalt runway, designated 04/22, is about 1,600 m long. That length limits the airport to small aircraft, and only ATR 72 turboprops are reported to land here. Air Thanlwin and Myanmar National Airlines have both listed Yangon as their destination. Services have been irregular, with some flights running only on Mondays and Fridays, so check the airline schedule before travelling.
