Modibo Keita International Airport serves Bamako, the capital of Mali, and is the country's only international airport. Located approximately 15 kilometres south of the city centre in the Sénou district, it handles around 1.5 million passengers annually. The airport sits adjacent to Air Base 101, the main base of the Malian Air Force.

The airport underwent a major expansion between 2009 and 2012, funded by a US$181 million Millennium Challenge Corporation grant. The project replaced the original 1974 terminal with a new 15,600 square metre facility and extended the single runway from 2,706 metres to 3,180 metres, enabling it to accommodate wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 747.

Carriers serving BKO include Royal Air Maroc, Ethiopian Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Air Algérie, Tunisair, ASKY Airlines, Air Sénégal, Mauritania Airlines, and Corsair, providing connections to Europe, the Middle East, and across West Africa. Ground transport to central Bamako takes 25 to 45 minutes by taxi.
