Xieng Khouang Airport guide

Xieng Khouang Airport serves Phonsavan, the capital of Xiangkhoang Province in northeastern Laos. It sits on the Xiangkhoang Plateau, west of the town centre, and is the main air gateway for visitors to the Plain of Jars. Phonsavan lies about 5 km east of the airport, so the town centre and the guesthouses and hotels where most visitors stay are a short road transfer away, and the Plain of Jars sites are reached from there.

The airport has one asphalt runway, 07/25, listed at about 2,480 m. Scheduled service is domestic and runs to Vientiane's Wattay International Airport, a flight of roughly 40 minutes. The same trip by road is about 320 km and takes more than five hours on mountain roads.

Lao Airlines is the longest-established operator on the route, and Lao Skyway and Lanexang Airways International are also listed on it. Frequencies vary by season, so check the airline's current timetable before booking. The airport was reported closed from October 2024 to mid-2025 for runway repairs.
