Almaty International Airport is the busiest airport in Kazakhstan and Central Asia, handling 11.4 million passengers in 2024. Located 15 km northeast of central Almaty, it serves as the main international gateway to the country. The airport is operated by TAV Airports Holding under the ownership of Groupe ADP.
The airport underwent a major expansion with the opening of Terminal 2 in June 2024. The new international terminal covers 53,000 square meters with 50 check-in counters and 20 passport control booths, while Terminal 1 handles domestic traffic. Two parallel concrete runways, each over 4,400 metres in length, support a broad range of aircraft types.
Air Astana, FlyArystan, and Qazaq Air are the primary carriers based at ALA. The airport connects Almaty to major hubs across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, with direct services to Istanbul, Doha, Frankfurt, Dubai, Beijing, and Bangkok among others.
