Kuwait International Airport guide

Updated 2026-09-25

Kuwait International Airport is Kuwait's sole civil airport, sitting in Farwaniya Governorate about 15.5 kilometres south of central Kuwait City. Its origins trace to 1927-1928, when the site began handling early flights; the current main building, Terminal 1, was designed by Japanese architect Kenzo Tange and opened in 1979. A renovation and expansion project ran from 1999 to 2001, clearing the former car park to add terminal space.
