Gunsan Airport / Gunsan Air Base guide

Gunsan Airport (ICAO RKJK) serves Gunsan and the surrounding North Jeolla Province on South Korea's west coast. It is a shared civil-military field. The civil side sits inside Kunsan Air Base, home to the Republic of Korea Air Force and the United States Air Force, and the two share a single runway.

The runway, designated 18/36, is concrete and measures 2,743 metres by 45.7 metres. The field sits at 8.8 metres above sea level on flat coastal land. Civil flying began in August 1970, stopped in 1974 during the oil crisis, and resumed on 14 December 1992.

Scheduled service is domestic only, on the route to Jeju. Traffic has swung widely. The airport handled 306,518 passengers in 2019, fell to 109,800 in 2020, and peaked at 409,738 in 2022 before dropping to 172,939 in 2023. Aircraft movements followed the same pattern, from 1,955 in 2019 to 2,681 in 2022 and 1,124 in 2023. Because the military shares the airfield, civil operations work around the base's flying schedule.
