Cheongju International Airport/Cheongju Air Base (K-59/G-513) guide

Cheongju International Airport sits in Cheongwon District, north of Cheongju city in North Chungcheong Province. It shares its site with a Republic of Korea Air Force base, which is why the airfield is also known as Cheongju Air Base. The base opened in 1978, and civil flights began in 1997.

The airport serves central South Korea, including Daejeon and Sejong, and works as a second gateway for travellers who would otherwise use Incheon or Gimpo. Passenger numbers grew from about 3.7 million in 2023 to about 4.6 million in 2024. Jeju is the main domestic route. International flights run mainly to cities in Japan, China and Southeast Asia, flown largely by low-cost carriers.

Two parallel concrete runways, each 2,743 metres long, handle the traffic. A car park stands directly opposite the passenger terminal. A railway station at the airport has limited service. The KTX high-speed line does not stop in Cheongju city but at Osong Station, outside it. Direct buses link the airport with Seoul terminals, including Central City Terminal and COEX City Airport Terminal. Korean Air Cargo also operates freight flights from the airfield.
