Karakol International Airport guide

Karakol International Airport (ICAO: UCFP) serves the Issyk-Kul region of eastern Kyrgyzstan. It sits about 2.5 km northeast of Karakol, at an elevation of 1,700 m, close to the eastern end of Lake Issyk-Kul and the Tien Shan mountains.

The airfield dates to the Soviet era, when it was known as Przhevalsk Airport and handled small aircraft such as the Yak-40, An-24, An-28 and An-2. Scheduled links to Bishkek, Jalal-Abad and Osh ended in 1991. The government granted the airport international status in November 2011. A full reconstruction began with a ceremony in May 2022, and the rebuilt airport opened on 11 December 2024. IATA assigned the code IKG in February 2025.

The new terminal covers roughly 9,000 square meters and is designed for 250 passengers per hour. The single asphalt runway, 10/28, was extended during the rebuild, and the apron takes up to four Embraer 195-class aircraft at once. Asman Airlines flies the Bishkek route, which takes about 45 minutes. The airport is part of the Manas International Airport group of Kyrgyz airports.
