Fukushima Airport guide

Fukushima Airport stands on a plateau in the Fukushima Prefecture interior, at the boundary of Sukagawa and Tamakawa in the Nakadori region. It is roughly 20 km from Koriyama, the prefecture's largest city and the main rail hub for the area. Fukushima city, the prefectural capital, lies farther north and is usually reached by rail rather than by air.

The airport opened on 20 March 1993 with a single 2,500 m runway, 01/19. An international terminal followed in 1999. The prefecture runs the airfield, while Fukushima Airport Building Co., Ltd. operates the terminal building.

Scheduled flights are limited. ANA Wings serves Sapporo-Chitose and Osaka-Itami, Ibex Airlines flies to Osaka-Itami, and Tigerair Taiwan has linked the airport with Taipei. Charter flights, including seasonal services to Okinawa, supplement the timetable. The Tohoku Shinkansen and expressways carry most travellers in the region, so the airport is quiet compared with its capacity.

Ground access is by the Fukushima Kotsu limousine bus to Koriyama Station, taxis and rental cars. About 2,300 parking spaces beside the terminal are free to use.
