Memanbetsu Airport Guide
Memanbetsu Airport serves the Okhotsk region of eastern Hokkaido, Japan. It lies in the town of Ozora, which absorbed the former town of Memanbetsu in 2006. Abashiri is about 22 kilometres away and Kitami about 32 kilometres, so the airport covers both cities and the tourist areas around them, including the Shiretoko and Akan areas.
The current airport opened on 22 April 1985 on a site south of the original airfield, which dates to 1935. It has one asphalt runway, 18/36, measuring 2,500 metres by 45 metres and equipped with an instrument landing system. Hokkaido owns the airport and Hokkaido Airports Co., Ltd. operates it.
All scheduled service is domestic. Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways and Air Do connect the airport to Sapporo New Chitose and Tokyo Haneda. Seasonal routes link it to Osaka and Nagoya. The airport handled about 804,000 domestic passengers in fiscal 2024. The terminal has a free observation deck on its third floor.
