Tinson Pen Airport guide

Tinson Pen Aerodrome (IATA KTP, ICAO MKTP) sits in Kingston on Marcus Garvey Drive, the road that links Kingston to the residential community of Portmore, and it is close to the Kingston Free Zone. The Airports Authority of Jamaica operates it as a public aerodrome.

The aerodrome has one asphalt runway, designated 14/32, measuring 4,300 ft by 100 ft (1,311 m by 30 m), at an elevation of 16 ft (4.9 m) above sea level. It is one of Jamaica's three domestic airports and has no international service.

The aerodrome has mainly served business travellers. Its passenger numbers rose from 62,079 in 1997 to 92,091 in 2001. Domestic carriers TimAir and International Airlink are listed by Sangster International Airport as serving Jamaica's domestic aerodromes, and general aviation operators such as Airpak Express are based here.

Plans to close Tinson Pen date back to 2006 and aim to free land for expansion of the Kingston port. PACKAL, which operates Norman Manley International Airport, has completed an assessment of relocating the aerodrome and shared it with the Airports Authority of Jamaica. Funding and execution are still under discussion, and general aviation stakeholders have asked for more input before any move.
