Updated 2026-10-16

Uri Michaeli Haifa International Airport sits on the Haifa Bay waterfront, beside the Port of Haifa and the Israel Shipyards, with Highway 4 and Highway 22 close by. The British Mandate authorities founded it in 1934 as RAF Haifa. Imperial Airways had already flown passengers from the site to Alexandria in 1931 and Baghdad in 1932. Civil flights stopped in 1940, and passenger service restarted in 1948 with Cyprus Airways. The airport gained international status in 1994 and is named after Uri Michaeli, a pioneer of Israeli aviation.
