Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport sits 24 kilometres southeast of the Hungarian capital. It is Hungary's largest airport by far, handling 17.6 million passengers in 2024 — a record that surpassed the previous peak set in 2019 by 8.7%. In June 2024, the Hungarian government and Vinci Airports jointly acquired the airport for €3.1 billion, ending years of private consortium ownership.

The airport operates two active passenger terminals: Terminal 2A for Schengen-zone flights and Terminal 2B for non-Schengen routes. A central Sky Court building links the two. Wizz Air uses BUD as its global headquarters and largest base; Ryanair also operates a significant base here. Together they account for the majority of seat capacity. Legacy carriers including Lufthansa, British Airways, and Air France serve the airport on intercontinental and European routes.

Two parallel runways support 128,693 aircraft movements recorded in 2024. The airport connects Budapest to 141 destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and East Asia.
