Hong Kong International Airport guide

Updated 2026-10-07

Hong Kong International Airport sits on Chek Lap Kok, an island built largely from land reclaimed off the northern coast of Lantau Island. It opened on 6 July 1998, replacing the constrained Kai Tak Airport in Kowloon, and is operated by the Airport Authority Hong Kong, a statutory body wholly owned by the Hong Kong government. British architect Norman Foster led the design of the original terminal building.
