Puerto Barrios Airport guide

Puerto Barrios Airport (ICAO MGPB) sits on the northern edge of Puerto Barrios, close to the shore of Amatique Bay in the department of Izabal. It is run by Guatemala's civil aviation authority, the Dirección General de Aeronáutica Civil (DGAC). The site began as Izabal Air Base, and the United States government built its first concrete runway there during World War II.

The airport has a single concrete runway, 12/30, which measures 2,707 m. That makes it the third-longest runway in Guatemala, after those at Guatemala City and Flores. Despite the length, traffic is light. Wikipedia records 17,140 passengers and 3,085 aircraft operations in 2022. TAG Airlines is the scheduled carrier, linking Puerto Barrios with La Aurora International Airport in Guatemala City, and charter flights also use the field.

Puerto Barrios is the main Caribbean port town of Guatemala. Travellers use the airport to reach the town, the nearby port area and the Caribbean coast, including Livingston across the bay, which has no road link to the town. There is no published passenger terminal layout, so check flight times directly with the operator before travelling.
