La Aurora International Airport guide

La Aurora International Airport sits in Guatemala City's Zone 13, on the site of a former aerodrome that began operations in the 1920s and hosted the country's first international flights, to neighbouring El Salvador. Regular scheduled service started later in that decade under Pickwick Airways and Pan American, and the airport has since grown into Central America's fourth-busiest by passenger traffic, ranking behind Panama's Tocumen, Costa Rica's Juan Santamaría, and El Salvador International.

The Directorate General of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC) operates the airport on behalf of Guatemala's Ministry of Communications, Infrastructure and Housing. Sitting at 1,509 metres elevation, its single runway has handled wide-body aircraft, including the Airbus A340s Iberia once flew nonstop to Madrid. Avianca Guatemala, DHL de Guatemala and TAG Airlines are based here, while American, United, Delta, Copa and Aeroméxico all run regular service to their home hubs.

Two VIP lounges, Los Añejos Business Lounge and the Copa Club, serve premium and Star Alliance-status travellers. The airport closed for six months during the 2020 pandemic before traffic rebounded, passing five million annual passengers for the first time in 2025 and making La Aurora Guatemala's busiest airport by a wide margin.
