Zakynthos International Airport Dionysios Solomos guide

Zakynthos International Airport (ICAO: LGZA) serves the Ionian island of Zakynthos, about 4.3 km from Zakynthos town. It is named after Dionysios Solomos, the poet who wrote the words of the Greek national anthem. Aircraft usually approach over Laganas Bay, turn through 180 degrees and make the final approach over Kalamaki beach, which lies inside the National Marine Park of Zakynthos where loggerhead turtles nest in summer. Because of this, flights are not permitted to take off or land between 10:00 PM and 5:00 AM except in extenuating circumstances.

The airport opened in 1972. The apron was expanded in 2003, and a new terminal building of 22,150 m² was completed in 2008. A single asphalt runway, 16/34, is 2,228 m long.

The Greek state owns the airport. Fraport Greece has operated it since 11 April 2017 under a 40-year concession. Almost all traffic is international and seasonal, with international passengers numbering about 2.1 million in 2024 and the United Kingdom the largest market. Aegean Airlines, Ryanair, easyJet, Jet2.com, TUI Airways, Condor and Wizz Air fly most of the routes, and summer carries the bulk of the year's passengers. The airport handled about 2.2 million passengers and 15,127 aircraft movements in 2024.
