London City Airport sits in the Royal Docks in east London, about 10 km east of the City of London and 5 km east of Canary Wharf. It opened in 1987 on a former dockland quay and was built for short-haul business travel. London City Airport DLR station adjoins the terminal and has served it since 2005.

The airport handled about 3.7 million passengers in 2025 and 51,000 aircraft movements. It has one runway, 1,508 m long, with a steep 5.5 degree approach that limits it to smaller jets and turboprops. Routes run mainly to European business and leisure destinations, plus domestic services to Scotland, the Channel Islands and Ireland. British Airways, KLM, Swiss and ITA Airways are among the carriers.

In August 2024 the government approved an increase in the annual passenger limit from 6.5 million to 9 million by 2031. London City Airport Limited operates the site. Macquarie Asset Management acquired a controlling share in 2025.
