Birmingham Airport Guide
Birmingham Airport sits 13 km east of Birmingham city centre in the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull, West Midlands. It is the seventh busiest airport in the UK, handling 12.8 million passengers in 2024. The airport serves over 135 destinations across Europe, the Middle East, North America, Africa, the Caribbean, and the Indian subcontinent.
The terminal is a single merged complex, formed in 2011 when the original Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 were joined via the Millennium Link. It operates with one active runway, extended to 3,450 metres in 2014 to accommodate long-haul widebody aircraft. Emirates operates two daily Airbus A380 flights to Dubai, one of the few regional UK airports to handle scheduled A380 services.
The airport has direct rail access via the Air-Rail Link, an elevated people mover connecting the terminal to Birmingham International station on the West Coast Main Line, providing trains to Birmingham New Street in under 10 minutes and London Euston in around 65 minutes. easyJet, Jet2.com, Ryanair, and TUI Airways all maintain operational bases at BHX.
