Humera Airport guide

Humera Airport serves the town of Humera in the Tigray Region of northwestern Ethiopia, near the borders with Eritrea and Sudan. The ICAO code is HAHU. The airport lies about 59 km southeast of the town, in the lowlands of the Humera agricultural area.

The current airport opened in July 2009. Ethiopian Airports Enterprise built it over three years at a cost of more than 182 million birr. It has one asphalt runway, 13/31, which is 3,000 m long and 45 m wide. That is long enough for large jets, well beyond what a small regional field needs.

The Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority owns the airport and Ethiopian Airports Enterprise operates it. Ethiopian Airlines has linked Humera with Mek'ele on a domestic route. The town sits in a farming region known for sesame and cotton, so traffic is mostly regional and business travel. Armed forces took control of the airport on 10 November 2020 during the conflict in Tigray, and services can change, so check the current flight schedule before you travel.
