Badajoz Airport guide

Badajoz Airport sits about 13 km east of the city of Badajoz, close to the Portuguese border, and is the only airport in Extremadura. The A-5 motorway links it to Badajoz and to Mérida, the regional capital, 45 km to the east. The airport lies in the municipality of Badajoz, on the road to Balboa, at an elevation of 185 m.

The airport shares its single 2,852 m runway and its control tower with Talavera la Real Air Base, a Spanish Air and Space Force installation. Civil flights are scheduled around military activity. Aena manages the civil side.

Traffic is small and almost entirely domestic. Iberia flies to Madrid and Barcelona, and Binter Canarias serves Gran Canaria and Tenerife. Madrid and Barcelona are by far the busiest routes, each carrying more than 34,000 passengers in 2023. Passengers bound for international destinations connect through Madrid or Barcelona. The airport handled 91,352 passengers in 2024, 13.8 percent more than in 2023, and passed 107,000 in 2025. Aena's survey of 2025 travellers shows visiting friends and relatives as the main reason for travel, followed by business.
