Maria Montez International Airport guide

María Montez International Airport sits about 3 km north of the port city of Barahona, on the southwest coast of the Dominican Republic. It is named after the Barahona-born film actress María Montez, and it is the main gateway to the southwest region, which includes Lake Enriquillo, the Las Marías thermal baths and the Barahona peninsula's surf beaches.

The airport opened on 27 April 1996 and is operated by Aerodom, the concession company that also runs Santo Domingo, El Higüero, Arroyo Barril, El Catey and Puerto Plata. A single asphalt runway, 12/30, is 3,000 metres long and 45 metres wide, long enough for wide-body aircraft. The runway was restored in 2011, and the access road and parking area were paved in 2018.

No airline operates regular scheduled services here. Traffic is made up of private and charter flights, and the airport has served as a staging point for relief flights, including after the 2010 Haiti earthquake. The terminal building covers 2,565 square metres and has immigration, customs and agricultural inspection services.
