Leipzig/Halle Airport sits in Schkeuditz, about 20 km northwest of Leipzig city centre and 28 km southeast of Halle. Opened in 1927, it is one of Germany's older commercial airports and serves both Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt. Two parallel runways — each 3,600 metres — support around-the-clock operations, making it one of the few German airports with 24-hour cargo flight permissions.

The airport handled approximately 2.2 million passengers in 2024, placing it among Germany's mid-tier passenger airports. It is, however, a major freight hub: the second-busiest cargo airport in Germany after Frankfurt and among the top five in Europe, handling over 1.38 million tonnes of cargo in 2024. DHL Aviation and AeroLogic both use it as a primary European hub.

A railway station sits directly beneath the main terminal, connecting the airport to Leipzig and Halle via S-Bahn and intercity rail services. The passenger terminal is divided into a Central Terminal (check-in and rail access) and Terminal B (arrivals hall and security), linked by a short covered walkway.
