Westerland Sylt Airport guide

Sylt Airport sits in Tinnum on the North Frisian island of Sylt, about 2 km from the centre of Westerland. It is reached by road or by the Hindenburgdamm rail causeway, and it gives holidaymakers a direct air link to the island.

Scheduled flights began in July 1919, and the field is among the oldest in Germany. Traffic is highly seasonal and leisure-driven. Lufthansa, Eurowings, Austrian Airlines, Swiss, Luxair and Air Uniqon connect the island with Frankfurt, Munich, Düsseldorf, Stuttgart, Vienna, Zurich, Luxembourg and Berlin, and smaller operators fly from Mannheim and Kassel in summer.

Two concrete runways, 1,696 m and 2,120 m long, cross each other. The airport has a stated capacity of 250,000 passengers a year and handled about 123,700 in 2025. Customer service is in Terminal 1, and the airport has a restaurant there. Regional, charter and general aviation flights, including those of the local carrier Sylt Air, use the second terminal.
