Stuttgart Airport Guide
Stuttgart Airport (officially named Manfred Rommel Airport since 2014) sits 13 km south of Stuttgart city centre, on the boundaries of Leinfelden-Echterdingen and Filderstadt. It opened for commercial operations in 1948 and is the sixth or seventh busiest airport in Germany, serving the Baden-Württemberg region. The S-Bahn S2 and S3 lines connect the airport directly to Stuttgart's main station in around 27 minutes.
Eurowings is the dominant carrier, operating a hub with several hundred weekly departures. Turkish Airlines, Lufthansa, TUI fly, and SunExpress are among the other major operators. The airport lost its only long-haul route in 2024 when Delta Air Lines ended 36 years of non-stop service to Atlanta, leaving STR without scheduled intercontinental connections.
In 2024 the airport handled 9.1 million passengers across 94,177 flight movements. A single runway (07/25, 3,345 m) handles all traffic. The four passenger terminals share a single airside area with eight jet bridges and around two dozen bus-boarding stands.
