Larnaca International Airport Guide
Larnaca International Airport is the main international gateway to Cyprus, located 4 km south of Larnaca city. It replaced Nicosia International Airport, which closed following the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974, and opened for commercial operations in February 1975. In July 2016, it was formally named in honour of former President Glafcos Clerides.
The airport is operated by Hermes Airports under a 25-year build-operate-transfer concession with the Republic of Cyprus. A €650 million redevelopment completed in 2006 included a new passenger terminal opened in November 2009, featuring 67 check-in counters and 48 departure gates. The airport handled 8.7 million passengers in 2024, exceeding the terminal's original design capacity of 7.5 million. An expansion programme is underway to raise capacity to 12.4 million annually.
More than 50 airlines operate at LCA, with Wizz Air, Aegean Airlines, Cyprus Airways, British Airways, easyJet, Ryanair, and Emirates among the busiest carriers. The UK, Greece, Israel, Poland, and Germany collectively account for around 64% of passenger traffic. Nicosia, the capital, lies roughly 50 km to the north.
