Maio Airport guide

Maio Airport (IATA: MMO, ICAO: GVMA), also called Maio Aerodrome, serves the island of Maio in the south-east of Cape Verde. It sits about 3 km north of Porto Inglês, the island's main town and capital. The aerodrome opened in 2005 and is one of three smaller aerodromes in the archipelago, alongside Fogo and São Nicolau.

A single asphalt runway, 01/19, measures 1,200 metres by 30 metres. It can take two ATR 72 turboprops at a time, so service is limited to small regional aircraft rather than jets. The airport handled 13,846 passengers in 2018 and 15,100 in 2017, the lowest traffic of Cape Verde's seven working civil airports. The scheduled route links Maio with Praia on Santiago island.

VINCI Airports has run the aerodrome under a 40-year concession for the country's airports since July 2023. Travellers should expect a very small facility with few services, and flights are infrequent, so check the schedule before booking onward connections.
