José Martí International Airport guide

Updated 2026-10-07

The airport opened on 24 February 1930, replacing the earlier Ciudad Libertad Airport, and was renamed in 1953 to honour the poet, journalist and independence leader José Martí. Its single runway, 06/24, runs 4,000 metres of asphalt on the southwestern edge of Havana. A separate cargo terminal, run as a joint venture between Cargosur and Aerovaradero, handles up to 600 tonnes of freight and sits apart from the passenger buildings.
