Zhongwei Shapotou Airport guide

Zhongwei Shapotou Airport serves Zhongwei, a city on the Yellow River in the west of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. It sits about 9 km northwest of the urban area and opened on 26 December 2008 as Zhongwei Xiangshan Airport. It took its current name in 2012, after the nearby Shapotou desert scenic area.

The airport has one concrete runway, designated 09/27, which is 2,800 m long. In 2025 it handled 329,627 passengers and 13,952 aircraft movements, the highest passenger figure since it opened. Scheduled carriers include Sichuan Airlines, Juneyao Air, Donghai Airlines, West Air, Capital Airlines and Chengdu Airlines. They connect Zhongwei with Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Chongqing, Xi'an, Shenzhen and Hangzhou.

Ningxia Airport Company runs the airport alongside Yinchuan Hedong International Airport and Guyuan Liupanshan Airport. Tourism shapes much of the traffic. The airport has added charter routes built around Zhongwei's "Hometown of Stars" tourism brand, which promotes desert and night-sky travel.
