Chongqing Xiannüshan Airport guide

Chongqing Xiannüshan Airport is a regional airport in Xiannüshan Town, Wulong District, in the mountains of southeastern Chongqing. It sits at an elevation of about 1,746 metres above sea level, among the highest commercial airfields in China. Its ICAO code is ZUWL.

The airport opened on 18 December 2020, after about five years of construction at an estimated cost of 1.333 billion yuan, and the first service was flown by Chongqing Airlines. Scheduled flights began in 2021. It was built mainly to serve tourism in Wulong, whose Furong Cave, Three Natural Bridges and Xiannüshan scenic areas draw visitors from across eastern China.

A single 2,800-metre by 45-metre runway handles Code C aircraft such as the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320. The apron has six Code C stands and four general aviation stands. The terminal is designed for up to 600,000 passengers a year. Traffic is domestic and small: 47,433 passengers used the airport in 2021, on 602 aircraft movements. Several services are tourist routes that stop at Wulong between larger cities, such as Shanghai or Hangzhou and Chengdu.
