Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport Guide
Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport serves Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province in southern China. It opened on 5 August 2004, replacing the original Baiyun Airport that had operated in the city since 1933. Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport Company Limited, part of Guangdong Airport Management Group, operates the airport.
The airport is the main hub for China Southern Airlines and also bases 9 Air, Chongqing Airlines and other Chinese carriers, alongside a large FedEx Express freight operation. Passenger traffic has grown steadily since the airport opened, and it regularly ranks among the world's busiest airports by passenger volume and consistently the busiest in mainland China.
A third terminal opened on 30 October 2025, covering more than 422,000 square metres and adding a fifth runway, making Baiyun one of the few airports worldwide with parallel five-runway operations. The original terminal, which had operated for 22 years, closed for a multi-year renovation in May 2026 to expand international capacity. The airport sits within the Pearl River Delta megaregion and connects to Guangzhou Metro Line 3 and regional intercity rail.
