Kashechewan Airport guide

Kashechewan Airport (ICAO CZKE) serves Kashechewan First Nation, a Cree community on the north bank of the Albany River near the west coast of James Bay in northern Ontario. The airfield sits about 1.3 km west of the community at an elevation of 35 ft.

The airport has a single gravel runway, 06/24, roughly 1,070 to 1,190 m long depending on the source. It handles turboprop aircraft only. The Government of Ontario operates it, and no passenger statistics are published.

The airport and boat travel are the only year-round links to the outside world. A seasonal winter road reaches other James Bay communities, but it is not open all year. Scheduled flights carry passengers, mail and supplies. Air Creebec and Thunder Airlines fly to Attawapiskat, Fort Albany, Moosonee, Peawanuck and Timmins, with Timmins about 460 km to the south. The airfield is also used for medical evacuations and emergency operations. Schedules change by season, so confirm flight times with the airline before travelling.
