North Bay Jack Garland Airport guide

North Bay Jack Garland Airport (ICAO CYYB) sits in Hornell Heights, about 7 km north-northeast of North Bay, Ontario, at an elevation of 370 m (1,215 ft). It is named for Jack Garland, a longtime member of Parliament for Nipissing. The airport shares its site with CFB North Bay, the base from which Canadian NORAD operations are controlled.

Two paved, lighted runways serve the field. Runway 08/26 is 3,049 m (10,004 ft) long and has an ILS, which makes it long enough for large aircraft. Runway 18/36 is 1,369 m (4,492 ft). A grass strip, 13/31, is used for gliders only. Transport Canada transferred the airport to the Municipality of North Bay in 1998, and North Bay Jack Garland Airport Corporation has run it since 2003. The current terminal was built in 2001 and renovated by 2010.

Scheduled passenger flights link North Bay with Sudbury and other northern Ontario centres, and airline service here has changed several times in recent years, so check current schedules with the airline. The airport is also an airport of entry for general aviation. Canadore College runs an aviation campus on site, and Canadair CL-415 water bombers were assembled here from 1999 to 2015.
